Since the end of July 2015, it is possible to celebrate a marriage before a notary. However, until June 30, 2017, the processing of the certificate prior to the celebration of the marriage must be carried out at the Civil Registry. Until that date, you must manage this record in said registry.

You only need to inform the Civil Registry about the notary you have chosen, so that they can send your file from there.

You can freely choose any notary to celebrate your marriage.

The advantage of getting married before a notary is that the waiting time for the celebration can be considerably reduced, adjusting it to the preferences of the couple, both in date and time.

The law establishes that spouses, in the presence of two witnesses, must sign a public deed. The notary will read articles 66, 67 and 68 of the Civil Code and, after the parties declare that they wish to marry, he will declare them united in marriage, proceeding to sign.

Once the marriage has been celebrated, and given that there is still no option for electronic sending by the notary, it will be necessary to physically present the copies at the Civil Registry. This can be done by one of the parties, both, or someone on their behalf, in a similar way to what is done in religious marriages.

The cost of the notarial fee for celebrating the marriage is pending approval, but has been established at €95 plus the corresponding VAT. To date, it is a public deed without a specific amount, with a base of €30.050605 and no more than four pages (if the Civil Registry document is one page), from which three authorized copies are made, so the cost could be even lower.
